- Calgarians more likely to buy condos, poll says - Calgary Herald
Calgarians are more likely than any other region in the country to spend from $200,000 up to $400,000 for a two-bedroom condo, says a national survey released today.
According to the 2009 TD Canada Trust Condo Poll, 64 per cent of Calgarians surveyed said they would spend in that price category compared with 56 per cent nationally.
Of those considering purchasing a condo as a primary residence, 56 per cent of Calgarians are somewhat likely (versus 61 per cent nationally) and 44 per cent are very likely (versus 39 per cent nationally).
When asked the top reasons for considering a condo purchase, Calgarians said for less maintenance (45 per cent versus 39 per cent nationally); affordability (23 per cent versus 21 per cent nationally); and approaching retirement (17 per cent, same nationally).
Lack of parking (87 per cent), insufficient security (65 per cent) and restrictions on pets in the building (49 per cent) were chosen by Calgarians polled as the top three reasons not to buy a particular condominium.
The poll also showed that 52 per cent of Calgarians are optimistic that the current market conditions are better than year ago for buying a condo for investment purposes (versus 44 per cent nationally).
