Acreages are still in demand, but like other sectors of the real estate market, those sales have waned in the past year. For the first four months of this year, 128 properties have changed hands, down from 233 for the same period a year ago, says the Calgary Real Estate Board. Running parallel with the slowdown in demand is a drop in the average and median prices. To date, the average is sitting at $743,897 compared to last year's$856,561. The median is $635,000, more than $113,000 below 2008's level.
