Calgary builders are well-positioned to walk away with the majority of the hardware handed out at the CHBA-Alberta Awards of Excellence on Sept. 18.

Of the 46 awards finalists announced earlier this week, 26 are from Calgary, 14 from Edmonton and three each from Red Deer and Lethbridge.

Edmonton’s Christenson Developments leads all builders with four finalists, followed by three Calgary builders with three each: Ashton Custom Homes, Streetside Development Corporation and last year’s Alberta Builder of the Year, Shane Homes, for its Creations division.

The Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing, presented by RBC Royal Bank, honours the top builders and renovators from across the province during the BUILD 2009 conference in Jasper and this year 209 entries were received for the 16 categories judged.

“The Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing is a great opportunity where CHBA-Alberta recognizes members for their innovative and creative designs. We are excited to see such fantastic preliminary results from the many excellent entries,” said Bruce Galts, CHBA-Alberta president.

In addition to the 16 awards to be given out, Alberta’s Builder of the Year will be announced and will receive the prestigious Ralph Scurfield Award, as will the recipients of the JD Power and Associates 2009 Alberta New Home Builder Customer Satisfaction Awards.
