Alberta Venture Magazine has released it’s Fast 50 list, and two Calgary area builders have cracked the top 25 companies over $20 million.

Classic Construction Ltd. (CCL) came in at 15, making the list for the 4th year in a row, while Homes by Avi took the No. 13 spot.

“It’s based on 2008 numbers, and the comparative is before the boom of 2005, so it’s cumulative growth from 2005 to 2008, which takes into account the huge growth that happened between the boomyears of 2006 and 2007,” says Anita Bustos, corporate marketing manager for Homes by Avi.

The builder’s revenue on the list was pegged at $313,000,366.

“Obviously, 2009 was a very different story for us, but although revenue has decreased, we’re proud to have held our staff levels with minimal-to-no layoffs throughout the company, and that’s a reflection of our priority to maintain a high level of customer service.”

A dedication to customer service, along with a one-of-a-kind affordable housing model, is part of the reason CCL made the list as well, says Kris Trail, creative director of advertising and marketing.

“We started in 2002 as a company that only had five office employees, and now we’re up to over 100,” he says.

“It shows the importance of our product — we understand the need for housing.

“The market has become unachievable for some people out there and we developed an attainable housing program where we help buyers for 10 years.”

CCL assists purchasers with their down payment, monthly payments and qualifying for a home — the concept has been so popular with purchasers that the company has expanded from Medicine Hat to High River and Canmore, with potential projects in the works in Saskatchewan and additional Alberta markets.

Their revenue is listed as $72,476,537.

“We realize that homeownership is important,” Trail says. “But with the market, it can be tough to achieve, and our model allows people to get into the market.”
