CALGARY - Total housing starts in the Calgary census metropolitan area are up by an incredible amount in February compared with a year ago — an indication of how far the economy had fallen at the beginning of 2009.
According to preliminary figures released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., total starts reached 743 units last month in the Calgary CMA, up substantially from 206 units in the previous year.

CALGARY - Albertans are the most likely to say they are very likely to buy a home in the next two years, says the 17th Annual RBC Homeownership Survey.
The survey also indicated 92 per cent of respondents believe that buying a home is a good investment.
Among those looking to buy they are also the most likely (40 per cent) to say they will buy within the next year.

Monday, March 8, 2010 - Housing bolsters building permits-calgary herald
A steady rise in the residential sector has sparked an increase in the estimated construction value of building permit applications in Calgary last month.
The City of Calgary said Friday the construction value in February rose by 27 per cent compared with a year ago from $150 million to $190 million.
But the construction value is off by 38 per cent compared with the fiveyear average of $307 million and also down 19 per cent from the 10-year average of $237 million.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. is forecasting increases in both the new home and resale housing markets this year and next year in Calgary and in Alberta.
In releasings its updated market forecast today, CMHC said the Calgary census metropolitan area will see total housing starts rise by 20.3 per cent this year to 7,600 units followed by a 21.1 per cent hike in 2011 to 9,200 units.
