Calgary led the country in February with the steepest decline in house prices, according to a national report released Wednesday. The Teranet-National Bank National Composite House Price Index said Calgary house prices fell by 8.1 per cent year-over-year followed by Vancouver at 6.4 per cent and Toronto at five per cent. The resale housing industry in Canada generated more than 202,000 jobs and an average of $22.3 billion annually in various economic spinoffs in the period from 2006 and 2008, according to a study prepared for the Canadian Real Estate Association by Altus Clayton.
