OTTAWA -- Prices for new homes in Canada rose 0.3% in October after a 0.5% increase the previous month, Statistics Canada said Friday. It was the fourth straight monthly gain in the federal agency’s new-home price index, although the increase was slightly below the 0.4% many economists had expected. The biggest price increase was in Quebec City, up 1.1%, followed by Vancouver, up 0.7%.
The Bank of Canada did as expected last week, keeping its key overnight rate at 0.25% and further pledging to hold the rate at least until the middle of next year.
