CALGARY - Scarce water resources and rapid growth have collided head-on in Okotoks, where town officials aren't approving new subdivisions until they can acquire enough water licence allocations.
Water has always been a top concern for the town that relies on the tiny Sheep River southwest of Calgary.

A new survey says more than four out of five home buyers feel comfortable with their debt, but another hike in interest rates might get Canadians squirming next time they’re polled.
Canada and Mortgage and Housing Corp. surveyed 2,503 mortgage consumers between Feb. 11 and Feb. 28 and found 81% were comfortable with their current debt levels. CALGARY - Affluent purchasers moved in the first quarter to take advantage of low interest rates, pushing luxury home sales in Calgary to nearly double what they were a year ago.

Improved consumer confidence is helping push up housing prices in Calgary ahead of rising interest rates, a report by Royal LePage said Thursday.
In it first-quarter survey, Calgary home prices across all categories were higher than the same period last year, the realtor said.

Monday, April 12, 2010 - Calgary housing starts surged in March: calgary herald
CALGARY - Housing starts in the Calgary census metropolitan area ballooned in March compared with year-ago levels.
According to preliminary figures released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., total housing starts in the Calgary CMA reached 904 units in March, up from 297 units in the previous year. To the end of March, total housing starts increased from 746 units in 2009 to 2,161 units in 2010.
